PARENTING FROM WITHIN

A reflective course on parenting

Developing confidence in children through relationships of trust and conscious parenting.

This 12-18 hour course is an opportunity for us as  parents and carers to share and gain insight about our particular ‘style’ of parenting and how this ‘style’ affects the  relationship with our child and his or her developing personal confidence. It is about the skill and natural state of maintaining emotional attunement with our child. The course is reflective because it requires us to consider the modeling of parenting style that our own parents gave us. We become aware of our own parents’ influence when we hear ourselves resolve ‘I will NOT raise my kids that way!’ but then are faced with the disconcerting realization that in moments of stress or crisis I can hear my mother or father’s words and mantras coming out of my own mouth. This is the reason the course’s aim is for ‘conscious’ parenting so that any negative or harmful  life-messages, received from our parents’ fear and inappropriate coping strategies, are not passed on to our children. When life is reflected upon in this manner, in the context of parenting, it generates often wonderful humor, insight, love and confidence and contributes greatly to an appreciation of one’s

own journey through life and ability to narrate that story.
